CA ALWAYS makes AOE2 crash when quitting CA.#179

Windows 11 Home 24H2 64 bit
OS build 26100.3775
Processor: i7-12700K
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti
32 GB Ram

Disabled all mods, still crashes. See attached logs.
I see another user has the same problem 4 months ago and it has already been reported to the AOE2 DE team, but this is a CA bug, not an AOE2 DE bug, so I don’t think reporting it again to the DE team will help anything. https://captureage.nolt.io/167

Before the recent update AOE2 would just hang and I had to force-close it,but now I get this new Assertion failed.

I see from MainLog.txt that it writes to Age2CrashReport.txt but I can’t actually find this file when I look for it - C:\Users\georg\Games\Age of Empires 2 DE\logs\2025.04.26-1201.23\Age2CrashReport.txt

Lemme know if you need more information. I don’t know how footage of this happening will help, since I can reproduce this issue 100% of the time: I try Alt-F4 from CA. I try clicking the quit button in CA, same result.

This is the Steam version, not Windows

I have exactly the same issue. No feedback from support?

@George Munteanu @Fernando Yllescas We have received this Assertion-related report recently. We believe this to be an issue with how the game is handling the CA:DE connection in some specific situations, but we will take a look at it and see if we can find anything we can do from CA:DE’s side. If we need extra information we will reach out to you 🙂

@Pablounquillo This is not a CA:DE bug. Please report it in the game forums or add to the existing reports of others 🙏

The game devs doesn´t care at all, it´s an already reported bug. I guess i won´t be able to see replays anymore on CA.

@Pablounquillo while this isn’t something we can fix, feel free to try the following general-troubleshooting steps. If any of these things help at all it would be useful to know:

Ensure you have the latest and correct drivers installed for your specific model
Ensure CA:DE is using the dedicated GPU if an integrated one also exists
Ensure that no power-saving or hybrid-graphics settings are enabled
Ensure there are no application-specific settings for CA:DE applied in the GPU application
Try toggling game mode on Windows
Try verifying the integrity of the game files on Steam
Try disabling UHD in both the game and CA:DE
Try disabling/lowering every graphic setting in CA:DE, especially texture filter options
Try changing video memory settings to lower and higher values, if possible
Try disabling every in-game mod
Try reinstalling CA:DE
Try reinstalling the game
Try running CA:DE on a clean installation of Windows (you can try a virtual machine using Hyper-V to avoid formatting)

@George Munteanu @Fernando Yllescas @Pablounquillo Some of our users found that disabling the experimental feature to automatically minimize AoE resolved the issue for them. This seems to be a regression introduced in the April patch of the game. See if that helps the issue for you
