after fresh install: "unexpected error encountered in application" + "error initializing resources"#93

I run the steam version of AoE2DE on windows 10 (in a vmware virtual machine) and just tried to make CA work. I encounter the following issues:

• After successfully installing from scratch, CA seems to auto-start and directly shows an error window saying “unexpected error encountered in application”.
• CA then nevertheless starts up and seems fine (see Screenshot1.jpg).
• When I start AoE2DE either via steam or via CA, CA starts showing continuous errors “error initializing resources” (see Screenshot2.jpg, bottom right).

I checked the log file (main.log in ) which shows only [info] messages except one [error] message saying:
[error] (node:15712) [DEP0005] DeprecationWarning: Buffer() is deprecated due to security and usability issues. Please use the Buffer.alloc(), Buffer.allocUnsafe(), or Buffer.from() methods instead.

Any ideas? Can this be related to memory consumption?

Hey, I’ve checked with some of the others on our team, here’s a summary of things:

1. We don’t support them as it’s pretty trickey to get them working
2. We believe there’s issues with directx preventing us from supporting this
3. We don’t think vm’s don’t support the features we currently require
