Allows player to compare tech research times during the game, (when its relevant) instead of having to wait until the end of the game to check.
Also allows for timeline/resources collected comparisons at various points during the game
If you mean opening the stats screen you can already do this at any point in the game and see all the charts and techs. To open the stats screen use the Shield Menu (shield icon to the left of minimap).
