CA wont play replays faster than 1.9x speed#143

Regardless of the button I press, the “game” won’t go faster than 1.9x speed, let alone 4x or 8x. Initially, I dissmissed it as a result of having 8 players and figured it had something to do with processing. However it doesn’t speed up, even as players get knocked out, and there are fewer buildings and units on the map. I don’t want to spend slightly less time than it would take to play an entire game to review my games and learn from them. Thanks!

Hey Apollus,
There’s many factors effecting the playback speed of CaptureAge so I’ll try break down what’s potentially relevant for you here!

  1. CaptureAge processes all entities in the game world on the CPU in a single threaded manner making this aspect dependant on your CPU’s single thread performance. Thisis the main cause of games slowing down in high population scenarios and should be the result of games in some cases speeding back up as populations drop. Most buildings/satic entities like trees are sunbstantially lighter to process and their accumulation isn’t typically much of an issue. Note, the number of players and actions being sent by players has nothing to do with it, it’s almost entirely determined by the number of units, buildings and terrain to my knowledge.

  2. Running CaptureAge at higher frame rates requires the CPU to write more data about the game word, for example, 240hz requires basically 4x as much data and thus 4x the CPU load to fast forward the same amount. Running CaptureAge on a high refreashrate monitor can even struggle to hit 1.7x speed on many CPUs even in 1v1’s.

  3. Computer thermals, if the game isn’t speeding up as populations drop, it’s particularly possible on laptops or systems with poor cooling to experience thermal, throttling which would explain why your game wasn’t speeding back up as you’d hope.

  4. If you were wathing a live game, it’s possible that your game might have been going under the live speed at the most intense processing sections of the game meaning that later on when players got knocked out it only slightly picked up to 1.9x speed.

Hope that answers some of your questions. If you’d like a more tailored answer as to the performance you could expect please email support@captureage.com and send us your DxDiag/CaptureAge log file if you can, the DxDiag one is the most important though! (please don’t send the DxDiag file here for your privacy)
