"Error initializing resources" persists#139

This problem has already been reported here, and the solution was to delete the smx_metadata_cache.dat file. However, I can’t find this file in the folder anymore (perhaps it does not even exist in this 1.6.0 version).

Hey @Marcos Vinícius Domingues . Thank you for your report. Just a sanity check. Did you try:

  1. Reinstalling CaptureAge
  2. Validating the game files through Steam

I’m assuming your game is working fine, and this is an issue with CA only, correct?

Let me know also if you’ve also seen this behavior https://captureage.nolt.io/133 so I know if I should merge both of these or if this is different

Yes, correct. I’m not sure if this is exactly the same issue as the other post. All I get are these error messages in this main screen and the replay never starts. Validating Steam files didn’t work either…

@Marcos Vinícius Domingues are you in our Discord server?

It’d be great if you could submit us some diagnostic data to analyze.

Find your logfile by putting %APPDATA%\CaptureAge\logs into your File Explorer’s address bar (to the left of the Search box).
Only send log files to developers, as they may contain some personal information (which all falls under CA’s privacy policy - https://captureage.com/privacy). See attached photo.
To generate a dxdiag file follow the instructions kindly provided by the AoE team https://www.ageofempires.com/how-to-upload-your-dxdiag/

I managed to fix my issue by unticking all my mods and then restarting the game. There are certain visual mods which seem to mess up Capture Age, so I suggest unticking all of them initially and then adding them back in one by one until you get the Unexpected Error. That way you can pinpoint exactly which mod is causing the issue.
